Le Mepris (1963)

Directed by Jean Luc Goddard.

Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli and FRITZ LANG ! ( as himself)

If this is not enough to bait you to see this movie then you are the walking undead.

The opening credits are not shown they are read out loud in a such an elegant manner. Giving each person the attention they deserve. The opening narration ends with "The cinema substitutes for our gaze a world more in harmony with our desires. Contempt is that story. "

The soundtrack is filled with tragic violin heavy orchestra sound that comes in and out at different moments. Giving the most simplest of moments weight. This awareness of the cinematic experience can be funny at first but soon you realize that those moments were tragic. The simple moments do deserve this accolade because they are fleeting.

The relationship between the husband and wife is arresting. The depth of their passion is unfathomable even in their hate and torrid games of give and take.

Totally, Tenderly and Tragically.

This what I imagine Paris Relationships to be like.
