Director: Sergei Parajanov
Today I am at the apex of being sick at least I hope and pray this is the fucking apex.
I dragged myself to History of Modern Ukraine which to my surprise was not a lecture since our professor had gone to the Ukraine for something important like lecturing. Instead we watched a movie put in the projector by one of his croonies ( a grad student).
This movie is exquisite. Shot on real film and filmed with innovative, dynamic, organic camera movements. The story a rich folklore peasant tapestry where the multiple worlds meet and entangled with one another. A towering presence of nature and the unknown through vivid landscape shots. The movie is broken off into chapters which I LOVE. Bright red font on black in Ukrainian.
The sex/marriage scene was the greatest I have ever seen. I had written a short description BUT BEHOLD THE MAGIC OF YOUTUBE. I have found the clip now you shall all watch.
If that does not make you want to watch this epic film. Nothing will and I quit.
I am going to buy this film and make you all watch it. So I guess I can't quit.
Also the Soundtrack is all these great haunting Ukrainian folk songs. Just mesmerizing.
Kimmy- nice to read your parajanov experience. .. .wait till you see Color of Pomegranates. . . hopefully on a large screen and in a theatre. .. berj
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. I will take you up on that suggestion as one of my friends had also suggested the same movie. May I enquire as to who you are ? You seem to address me as if we have met before ?
