Last Batch of Questions
What is your favourite Italian movie and why?
I reserve my right to change my opinion with out notice and sporatically.
With this in mind.
I love Fellini's Le notti di Cabiria (1957)
The main plot of this movie is a prostitute looking for love. She dates these men who promise her the world. They behave exactly how women imagine men who are in love should behave: like princes. The problem is the men always end up taking her to remote wilderness locations where she thinks they are going to make passionate love to her but instead they threaten her life and steal all of her money. This princely ideal of romance can never be attained. That concept of romance is a lie. Maybe if it did appear it wouldn't be love. Fellini in other films shows love as being absolutely beautiful because it is a mess. A mess of obsession, resentment and chaotic behavior between two complex creatures. He feels Love is Beautiful because it isn't pristine it is an irrational mess that we actively choose to go along with anyway.
Maria gets robbed time and time again but never learns the scam. What brought me to tears was that she never cares about the money. She says a speech along the lines of " If you asked me, I love you so much I would give you everything I own even my body. Why do you insist on threatening me ? "
The tragic part isn't the robbing it is the fact the men could have just asked but they insisted on insulting her capabilities to love wholly and selflessly.
What do you think about the world 'in the moment"?
I can not answer this question completely because I will never know the entire world in any moment. In every moment everything changes. I am one human being who can only be in one small location at one time. I do not have an all seeing eye or the ability to break the space /time continuum.
In that case what I am basing my views of the world on ? The news ? The media? Those are all easily manipulated forms of entertainment or propaganda.
Do I see the world in the lens of american paranoia where anything could blow up any minute ? no
Do I believe every American believes this? no
Then what lens do I use to view world ? History? Literature ? The collective unconscious.
At any given moment I imagine acts of kindness and charity are being committed.
I imagine children being born.
I imagine large waterfalls in untouched jungles where tons of water are falling at unbelievable speeds creating an enchanting boom.
My view of the world at this very moment is:
Not bad. I think I will stay awhile.
