Listening to sounds of printing presses to see if Kracauer's explanation of the sound at the beginning The Testment OF Dr. Mabuse is a printing press. He claims the film is realistic and the sound is a printing press in the building.

If I know Fritzy I believe he is not into the mere physical reality but the inner psychological world of his characters.

I think it sounds more like a pounding headache or the beating of a panicked heart.
