I am so glad I didnt see this with Josh and Kiera at the film festival. ONLY because this way I dont have be embrassed about choking on my own tears infront of them.
Boy, did it ever pull my heart strings.
Of course the poor illusionist spend his life trying to please and entertain others. He accepts the greedy little housekeeper to be his companion even though she is a drain on his bank account and in turn he is forced to take some pretty degrading jobs to make her happy.
Why does she always want and want and want ? If it isnt new shoes, it is new heels then dress then coat and on and on.
Then she leaves him.
What is Sylvain Chomet saying about our society ? Are we greedy little consumers? Is our entertainment shallow ie: the rock and roll and television ?
The Illusionist the character, wants to remind us of the mysterious but he gets used by everyone for money. The mechanic takes his money, the girl needs her things, the buisnessman wants him to be a live department store act and his agent sells him off.
I knew all along that falling for him was a bad idea but I could not help.
I know the Britoons may be shallow but am I the only one who thought they were dreamy? I wish they were a new band coming out for reals. Enjoy the songs I enjoyed from the soundtrack.
" When you are an artist there are things you just have to do,
I enjoy children's faces as they run to school through early morning dew
But I made my girl blue "
