Fishing

Turns out I am really into it.

In the past two weeks I have fished at two lakes, at the harbour dock, in the inlet and in the open ocean.

I caught my first fish off the rocks at the dock while waiting for a friend to finish a job interview.

The fish was a 2pd bullhead ( sculpin).
A bottom feeder that is not edible and apparently will bite anything. Especailly my holographic buzz bomb lure. Everybody here loves these lures apparently its benefits are: brightly colored, moves in distracting ways and while spining underwater lets out a buzzin noise that both attracts and annoys fish into biting.

Fishing isn't that manly as they make it out to be. I learnt that while hanging out the bait store looking at burly men argue over whether bright pink or bright orange was more attractive. They were talking about lures but come on.

The feeling of finally catching a fish was exhilarating. Plus holding it and looking into eyes and removing the hook then throwing it back brought me into the present moment.

Right now, I am working on a building a fishing kit through ebay.

List so far is more buzz bombs and hooks.

The last buzz bomb I had to scarifice to the ocean cause a fish way to big for the rod I was using bit it. The rod looked as though it was going to snap in half. I made the call and cut the line.

This what my first fish looked like:

  1. Fishing can be manly, methinks, but it's not a naturally masculine act. Although to be manly (Hemingway, damn it) I think it has to be boiled down to the essentials; rod, line, worm and hook. After that there's too many bucket hats and tan vests for it to have anything to do with machismo.

  2. Fishing ,is a genetic occurrence,in your case.Your dad can get into it. Fishing is not a masculine act or sport.Hemingway was quite far from ''masculinity'' and not too far from ''machismo''Not that is of any importance...
