This post is dedicated to K-bear (Kiera). I mentioned a while I back the best beyonce video in my opinion is Upgrade U.

Why ?

Number #1 reason: she does a great mockery impression of Jay-Z.



Other reasons I like this video:
- Beyonce hanging out in the trunk of the Rolls Royce for no apparent reason. Maybe to show off how roomie the trunk is ? "Look you could fit Beyonce's body back here, oohhh Luxurious."
- The video Acknowledges Beyonce's own the double standard during the rap portion where she plays herself bouncing her booty in a oversized mans shirt while also playing Jay-Z sitting in a chair/throne wearing bling and enjoying the lap/room dance. I guess if Jay-Z is king then that makes Beyonce the court jester?
- Good use of a swipe cut to transition from Beyonce's Jay-Z impression to Jay-Z himself.
- She has an all male back up dancing crew dressed in suits but instead of ties there are wearing bandanas, you know, making it a lil' hood.
- There is a baby Alligator for no reason !
- An excuse to show Beyounce: wet, with a diamond in her mouth and rolling around in gold treasures while scantily clad.

Reasons to not like this song:

- She uses U instead of you.
- Jay-z's opening line " I bes the block"
- This line:
" Let me do for you what Martin did for the people
Ran by the men but the women keep the tempo"

No Beyonce you can NOT do for Jay -Z what Martin Luther Jr. did for the Black Civil rights movement. I am sorry it is just contextually wrong and the worst kind of civil rights blasphemy.
Also way to give big ups to patriarchy. "The world is ran by the men but women keep the tempo" What the Fuck is that suppose to mean ? Not to mention, you just acknowledged in the song that you would gladly accompany your man to his meetings as arm candy to upgrade his image which in some shallow world ( america?) would gain him more money. Then you would split the bill ? Thats nice. That must be love.

Lastly there are too many corporate name droppings in here.

I understand this is Beyonce's answer to Marilyn's "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" but Beyonce still has a long way too go.

Last Note: What kind of independent women uses "looking fly while taking care of the home" as a selling feature ?

UGH .. She needs an intervention.
